Love and Basketball was one of my favorite movies when it came out. I think I watched it weekly!

Love & Basketball somehow totally passed me by in my teen years somehow - I'm thinking I need to rectify that after reading this! I remember Omar Epps being pretty dreamy.

Oh I definitely want to see this film now after reading your review.

So, Bull Durham is one of my favourite rom-sport films.

At the time this movie came out, I think it might have been rare to see a Black woman as the centerpiece in a movie where sports is a central theme. The movie just felt so real. Overseas women's basketball? The trauma after an injury? The pressures of being a professional women's athlete. It's all there.

Agreed. I actually completely forgot to include something here and only realised I’d left it out after I published. It was how many similarities the movie shares with the TV show ‘Swagger’, which was clearly heavily influenced by this. It’s one of the most slept on sports tv shows ever. I’ll need to highlight it next week to make up for forgetting!

Thank you! ☺️ I’m looking forward to the sequel too, but want to revisit the original before it happens. It’s been years since I last saw it.
