I watched this so many times as a kid. My favorite part was when the one kid managed to score a touchdown with his hands glued together.

This movie is directed by Duwayne Dunham, who edited "Return of the Jedi" and "Blue Velvet" and directed several episodes of the original "Twin Peaks" and edited "The Return." After he worked with David Lynch, he got into directing family films, which is a pretty wild career turn.

Working with David Lynch will do that to you, I guess! 😂 Honestly I found the sports scenes themselves fairly unremarkable but it was still an endearing watch. Ed O’Neill just has this larger than life personality and I love him in this.

Ed O'Neill has maintained a level of swag we should all aspire to.

That is wild!

I really enjoyed the detail of how you wrote this review. I somehow missed this sports movie and will definitely be seeking it out after reading your review.

Teehee thanks for sharing the watch list! Hubby is decidedly not a reality TV person, but I managed to rope him into checking out the UK version with me and we are now HOOKED! Next month’s watch list might be very Traitors heavy lol.

Nice! I don’t know what it is about the US version. Maybe it’s the fact that so many of the contestants are influencers or reality stars and it just feels forced and fake. The U.K. cast is just regular people. Also Alan Cumming’s hammed up Scottish accent…I hate it 😂

It’s okay. Alan Cumming is my second favorite Scotsman anyway.

The US has consistently relied on contestants with reality TV experience, and while the outfits for the US funeral episode were epic, I’m finding that the stakes are generally higher with “normal people” casts in the UK and elsewhere. So fascinating to see how the show changes just between the US and the UK!

Great flick, still watch it with the family. Big fan of both these actors. I only wish we could see Rick Moranis in more films.

I miss Rick Moranis too! It is indeed a good family film. I like finding good gateway movies for different genres.

Great review. This movie was perfect for 90s kids... and maybe 10 year olds will still find it appealing today? That was a favorite of mine and my friends during sleepovers.

Oh yeah, for sure. Like I said, it’s a perfect gateway sports movie. It doesn’t seem to be available to stream anywhere, at least not in the U.K. I wonder if that limits its audience these days?

I fear that with the decline in sales of physical media and the consolidation of streaming, we’ll end up loosing access to hundreds of films.

I can't believe this one bypassed me as a kid! Glad to have it to add to the list of family films that don't appear to have anything that will cause nightmares :) Also good to get The Instigators approval as I was debating it - will give it a go for a bit of light fun
